If you’ve always dreamed of having your wedding on your family’s property, there are some logistical considerations to keep in mind before you start planning. Here are some key factors to think about as you begin your wedding planning journey:

Available Space

While you may have acres of land, not all of it might be suitable for hosting an event. You’ll want to consider things like underground utilities, septic systems, level land, and accessibility. This will ensure that the area you choose is safe and functional for your guests. If we haven’t done an event on your property before, we will usually conduct a site visit to help you assess the space and understand where a tent could safely be set up.

Property Impact

There will be many people accessing your property, from vendors arriving on-site in advance of your event to guests walking around and potentially impacting the ground surface. It’s beneficial to plan accordingly to ensure your property remains in good condition.

Cooking Space for Your Caterer

While you may be tempted to let them use your home, it’s best to rent cooking equipment and a prep tent that can be installed close to your main tent. This will help keep your home clean and free from the hustle and bustle of the event and also help your caterer and staff provide a higher level of service for your guests.

Rain Plan

Even if you’re planning for an outdoor event, it’s crucial to have a backup plan in case of inclement weather. If your property doesn’t have a large covered space, consider renting a rain tent to ensure your guests stay dry and comfortable.

Bathroom Rentals

Bathroom access is another important factor, especially if you are planning for a larger wedding. A bathroom trailer offers a much nicer option than the blue portable bathrooms you see at parks or festivals. The trailers also usually have multiple stalls. It’s important to understand what options your property will have for placement, especially in relation to where you and your guests will be located.

Day of Management

Finally, hosting a wedding on your property means there are a lot of moving parts to manage. It’s impertative to have someone in charge. Don’t put this responsibility on your friends or family, however. Our recommendation is to hire a wedding planner or day-of coordinator. This way, you and your guests can enjoy the day without worrying about all the little things that could pop up. A wedding planner will also be a guiding presence to help with property logistics and keep things on track and on budget.

By considering these key factors, you’ll be able to plan a beautiful and successful wedding on your private property. Happy planning!
